About

Martin Whitmarsh is Chairman and co-founder of BAR Technologies.

After an engineering degree, Martin began his career within aerospace working with research and development before becoming a director responsible for the manufacture of military aircraft fuselages and advanced composite structures.

Martin joined the McLaren Formula One team as Operations director in 1989 and over the next 25 years was a key part of the leadership team developing the initial turnover of circa £20m to a diverse technology group with a turnover of £700m. In the final six years Martin held the positions of: group chief executive, deputy chairman of McLaren Automotive and Team Principal of the McLaren Formula One Team.

After leaving McLaren in 2014, Martin became chief executive of the British America’s Cup sailing team until 2017. After the AC campaign Martin and Simon Schofield founded BAR Technologies.

Martin in addition to currently being the chairman of BAR Technologies, he is a member of the Global Advisory Board of Formula E and chairman of the Offshore Wind Growth Partnership Limited.
