John is a chartered accountant having trained in London with Ernst & Young.
John joined the car rental industry with Avis Europe in 1994 and following a number of progressively senior finance roles, John began to gain a passion for commercial finance and deal making. In 1998 Avis Europe acquired the largest independent car rental business in Greece and he joined the Board in Athens for 18 months. After short spells working with the Boards of Avis Italy and Spain, John was a senior member of the Avis Europe team that purchased Budget EMEA from administration and went on to become their group finance director.
In 2005, John joined McLaren Racing as finance director but was soon promoted to commercial and finance director and in the latter part of his F1 career, chief business officer. During the 14 years with McLaren, John has become a familiar face in the F1 community, trusted by his colleagues, peers and F1 to get things done! John chaired the Finance Working Group (a group comprising the teams’ FDs) for many years and was instrumental in ensuring that team sustainability got some voice in a “who spends most wins” sport.
In October 2019, John joined BAR Technologies as CEO swapping automotive technology for marine technology. John has set about the continued protection of the IP and knowledge created by BAR Technologies and the commercialisation of each of these inventions and market sectors.
Together with Martin, Simon, Lauren and the highly experienced team, John is now focused on the growth of the company and working together with the partners of BAR Technologies for the success of all – something he is passionate about.
