WindWings®

Wind is the free fuel

Why choose WindWings®

01

Our patented three-element wing design is unique in the marketplace and delivers 2.5x the lift of single element wing leveraging proven aeronautical principles.

02

Three-element, high-lift rigid wing made from robust marine steel and advanced industrial composite construction materials.

03

Very low power consumption: no continuous spinning or suction fans. Minimal O&M with simple greasing and hydraulic maintenance. Five-year service intervals keeps costs low.

04

Automatically maximise efficiency with fully adjustable camber and angle of attack-positioning.

05

Performance guaranteed & proven to deliver enhanced performance over a wide range of wind speed and direction, resulting best-in-class fuel savings in real-life operation.

37.5 m WindWings®

37.5 m WindWings®

The original WindWings® units are high-performance wing sails designed to harness wind power and significantly reduce emissions.

The base structure features a hydraulically driven folding mechanism, enabling the wings to be safely lowered to the deck during extreme weather, pilotage, and port operations. Constructed from marine-grade steel and industrial composites, the design prioritises simplicity, durability, and reliability.

Turnkey Solution

Our team of experts will guide you from the initial performance assessment, through integration of the technology onto your vessel, to the realisation of fuel savings and emissions reductions on the open ocean.

Performance

WindWings® are designed to provide the maximum all-round performance from global weather conditions. The award winning 3-element design gives best-in-class thrust; adapting its geometry to suit the apparent wind at all times.

Aerodynamics

WindWings® are a patented 3 element, rigid wing. Inspired by aerospace; optimised for wind assisted propulsion for the 21st Century.

Generating 2.5x the thrust of a single-element wing and with fully adjustable camber and orientation that adapts according to the apparent wind, the WindWing provide best-in-class aerodynamic performance.

Integration

Whether installing WindWings® on newbuilds or retrofitting them onto your existing fleet, our in-house team of naval architects are here to help.

From the initial stability assessment, to the provision of detailed structural drawings for class approval, we have the expertise to safely integrate WindWings® into your vessels.

Control

WindWings® change their shape and orientation automatically according to the apparent wind.

Safety is at the heart of the WindWings® control system: They depower automatically in high winds, and can be folded down to the deck on command.

Frequently asked questions

How tall are the WindWings®?

Wing span is 37.5m. Including the pedestal, the top of the WindWing® is typically 45m above deck when the wings are in their upright position.

How much of an impact can WindWings® have on fuel consumption & emissions?

Each WindWing® saves an average of 1.5t of fuel and 4.7t of CO2 per day on typical global routes when averaged across all seasons.

How are the WindWings® deck positions derived?

Our team of in-house naval architects assess their position according to ship stabilty and manoevring, as well as physical constraints from other deck hardware, helipad, cranes etc. In parallel, our aerodynamicists optimise their position using CFD to ensure the performance from each WindWing® is maximised, and the interference with the ship structure and other WindWings® is minimised.
